The Blur That Was Last Week.

I don't know what it was about last week, but it felt different. It was such a blur, I can barely remember the first part of it. I was supposed to be catching up in my research class all week, but I'd find something else to do every time...or fall asleep while reading or listening to online lectures. My final is Monday was today. Yikes. On second thought, "yikes" still fits...but it's a good thing that I'm a better paper writer than test taker. I now have 2 weeks of academic freedom!

One thing from last week that I'm reminded of every time I look at Paige: her fall in the driveway. I was dropping off a meal at my friend Regina's (I drove Matt's new-to-us car, now that's something else that happened last week), and realized as I drove home that I really had to use the little girl's room. When I made it home, I dropped my bag at the door and rushed to the bathroom! That's when I noticed Paige's purple dress on the floor...first aid basket out...band-aids...steri-strips...STERI-STRIPS?!?!?

As soon as I was out of the bathroom, I gasped, "What happened to Paige?!?" There she was, laughing and stuffing her face with cheese in her high chair--a good portion of skin missing from the left side of her nose and a soggy band-aid on her left forehead. Matt had been working on getting a garage sale together for the weekend block sale, so Susie had come over to watch Paige. The combination of being outside and playing with Aunt Susie had apparently put Peppy into overdrive. She ran so fast and tripped and fell so hard that Sue said she somersaulted. I feel horrible that I wasn't there. A few bites of her daddy's awesome chocolate cake and Sesame Street/Curious George band-aids seem to have fixed her right up. So now she points to her head, saying, "Elmo?" Thankfully, no steri-strips.

Matt held a garage sale with the rest of the neighborhood. I was unable to help (and, for the record, I warned him of this!) since I had to work Thursday and Friday nights. I still can't figure out how he managed to feed Paige and keep her in check while dealing with the crowds. Saturday it rained all day, so he didn't open up shop...it went to Goodwill instead. Bonus: the garage is clean too. I had to run to the bank to get Matt change after I got home from work...stopped by one of the other garage sales and met a nice mom our age and her 2-year-old. She refused to take money for the toddler clothes I wanted to buy from her! Note to self: bring her cookies.

Mom had come down to help watch Paige Saturday while the sale was supposed to be going on. They must have had a super great time, since she slept 13 hours that night! Mom & Sue went out to dinner with us, and the coolest thing happened...we didn't worry about cigarette smoke! That's right, Michigan restaurants and bars are smoke-free now, so no one--especially people with asthma (like Mom & Sue) has to choose between breathing and having a nice dinner out. Gee, what a concept!

Hope you're all breathing easy in the spring pollen, and enjoying the sunshine and God's creation! Next on my school-free agenda: crafting craziness and DIY daze!

  1. Aw poor Paige but this is the first of many trust me. Just keep a stock of good bandaids and you will be fine. :)
